The Recycling Organisation for Research Opportunities or RORO for short was formed just over a year ago with the intention of procuring redundant scientific analytical instrumentation for subsequent re-distribution to academic institutions in the Developing World. There are many academic institutions out there that do not poses even basic analytical tools that we take for granted in this country. Our primary purpose is to assist our fellow researchers by giving them research opportunities in the form of analytical instruments that can be used for practical hands on analysis.

Universities in the UK for example have a whole plethora of instrumentation that can be used to facilitate in house research projects, Universities in the Developing World often have to pay significantly more for analysis and when samples are sent away they often have to wait a long time for their results. In some cases research is not economically viable and practical based education suffers. We believe that practical based hands on research should be an integral part of any University education.

RORO offers a comprehensive fuss free recycling service including collection onsite data erasure and assumption of all legal liabilities for equipment. We work with Re-Cyclers who are Liverpool based recycling firm that hold a waste management licence issued by the Environment Agency that permits the recycling of Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Find out more about the latest WEEE directive.

Reuse is the best form of recycling and by donating your old analytical instruments to RORO you can meet all your legal obligations and provide students in the developing World with new economic and research opportunities.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is very important and includes the following statements:-

Article 26       ‘Everyone has the right to education.’

Article 27       ‘Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy

the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.’

Science and technology are essential components of social and economic development. They are crucial in tackling problems affecting the Developing World such as health care, safe drinking water and food supplies. Technological advance will affect the whole economic growth of developing countries.

RORO’s vision through our own dedication, experience and awareness is to make a difference in the World by providing recycling solutions and at the same time giving research opportunities to tomorrow’s scientists in places where they need them most.
